EHR Software Vendors
Problems associated with successfully selecting and implementing EHRs have been a significant hurdle in the adoption of EHRs and health information technology (HIT) across the country. To overcome this obstacle in Ohio, OHIP issued an RFP to EHR vendors soliciting companies who could provide a certified product as well as the knowledge and technical resources to support successful implementation and achievement of meaningful use.
After a thorough review process, OHIP has identified five preferred EHR vendors. A review committee comprised of physicians, hospital CIOs, corporate CEOs, practice managers, OHIP staff and other interested parties evaluated over 40 vendors. The criteria to select the vendors included:
1. Sufficient functionality to meet current provider needs.
2. Proven capacity to handle the demand for services created by the OHIP program.
3. Willingness to hire and train Ohio residents as EHR implementation and training staff.
4. Commitment that all technical support will be conducted within the United States.
5. Commitment to meeting national certification and meaningful use requirements.

What are my other options?
NEO HealthConnect recognizes that there are many other EHR product options available, and that there are some unique differences specific to our region. Many EHR products are currently in use by practices within our region, and did not make the OHIP short list. One size does not fit all when it comes to EHR technology adoption, and we understand that your needs are as unique as your practice. As a result, we wanted to share with you those known ONC Certified EHR vendors with installations in local practices. These products present you with the opportunity to actually go on site and see it in use at a local office. Much can be learned from talking to a practice that currently uses a system.
The adoption and implementation of an EHR into an office is a process that is difficult and fraught with risk. The wrong product choice can have ramifications on many levels for each practice. That being said, it must be stated that NEO HealthConnect makes no warranties or assurances about any of the following vendors. They meet the minimum certification requirements from the ONC and will enable practices to apply for meaningful use stimulus dollars. These vendors range from large to small, and must be evaluated on a case by case basis, by each practice. There is a possible inherent risk in that the smaller vendor may not be correctly positioned to grow, as meaningful use progresses towards 2013 and 2015. The long-term growth strategy, market position, and viability of the companies must also be considered by the practice.
As certification of these products marches forward, and more practices begin to move forward with electronic medical records, this list will continue to grow. We will attempt to keep this list updated as often as possible so that you understand what choices are within our region.
